Applying for a Job at the MDA

The application process at MDA, like any high profile defense organization, is lengthy, detailed, demanding and can seem, at times, slow moving. You can prepare for the process by taking the time to patiently assemble the proper materials, and completing all the required steps fully and on time.

Timely submission is important, as each job opportunity listed (either as Job Opportunity Announcement or Vacancy Announcement) is subject to a specific closing date (see “Open Period” on the job posting). Your fully completed application package must be received by 11:59 PM EST on the deadline date specified.

MDA utilizes the human resources services of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Human Resource Center.

  1. Follow the process on USAJOBS (http://www.usajobs.com/) to submit an application.
  2. Once the solicitation date expires, candidates will be evaluated and the most highly qualified will be referred to the hiring manager for further consideration and possible interview. (In some cases, individuals with priority for special consideration must be considered and selected before other candidates.)
  3. If your application is accepted, you will likely be contacted by MDA for a formal interview.

Applicants can review online the status of announcements they have applied for. You will need your Job Opportunity Announcement number to review your application status.

Once you have been selected and have accepted a tentative job offer:

  1. You will be contacted to schedule a urinalysis drug test at a medical facility of MDA’s choosing near your home or work. Results are usually available within 1 week.
  2. After you have passed the drug test, your background investigation will begin. This investigation is extensive and may be lengthy (30 days to 6 months, or longer on occasion). To allow you to begin work, MDA can award an interim security clearance while your background investigation is active.

Many factors could affect your ability to obtain a security clearance, including, but not limited to:
    • Illegal or improper drug use
    • Criminal conduct
    • Dual citizenship
    • Foreign monetary interests
    • Involvement in activities or organizations that unlawfully practice or advocate the overthrow or alteration of the United States government by unconstitutional means
    • A history of not meeting financial obligations
    • Unexplained financial affluence or debt
    • Fraudulent claims of experience, education or employment history
    • Other conditions/actions that bring into question a candidate’s integrity, honesty, susceptibility to coercion and/or loyalty to the Government

All applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, lawful political affiliation, marital status, union membership, non-disqualifying physical or mental disabilities or sexual orientation.
