The Missile Defense Agency’s Educational Engineering and Science Student Outreach (EESSO) hosted its first session for the dialogue series, “Target: College” on Feb. 22, 2010 at Sci-Quest Science Center, in Huntsville, Ala. Educational Outreach serves as the educational liaison unit for K-12 engagement for the Missile Defense Agency. “Target: College” was a free event for parents, school site personnel and community leaders, who work with students in grades 6-12.
February’s topic was “Extracurricular Activities Supporting Students’ Interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): Camps, Coops, Internships, and Apprenticeships.” With a focus on information exchange and dialogue, this roundtable discussion was offered to increase the awareness of local opportunities for camps, team activities, coops, and internships available to students in Alabama, primarily northern Alabama. A variety of academic and extracurricular opportunities were presented by Alabama A & M University, Anniston Army Depot (Anniston, Ala.), Athens State University, Aviation & Missile research Development and Engineering Command (AMRDEC) – Army (Redstone Arsenal), Calhoun Community College, Drake State Technical College, NASA, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
